WHAT ARE ELEMENTS?
A chemical element is a species of atoms having the same number of protons in their atomic nuclei. 118 elements are identified, of which the first 94 occur naturally on Earth with the remaining 24 being synthetic elements.

Gold is a chemical element with symbol Au and atomic number 79, making it one of the higher atomic number elements that occur naturally. In its purest form, it is a bright, slightly reddish yellow, dense, soft, malleable, and ductile metal.

Tungsten, or wolfram, is a chemical element with symbol W and atomic number 74. The name tungsten comes from the former Swedish name for the tungstate mineral scheelite, from tung sten "heavy stone".

What Are Compounds?

Compounds are chemicals made from atoms of different elements joined by chemical bonds. They can only be separated by a chemical reaction. A mixture is made from molecules of elements and compounds that are simply mixed together, without chemical bonds.
